The Workflow Editor is a visual canvas where you build automations: drag triggers, conditions, delays, sends, branches. No code.

You'll work at /admin/store/{storeId}/marketing/automations/{id}.

Before you begin

  • Go to Marketing and open Automations.
  • You have Manage marketing automation permission.
  • You've planned the flow on paper first.

Building blocks

Block Detail
Trigger What starts the flow (signup, purchase, abandoned cart)
Condition Branch if/else (segment / tag / property)
Delay Wait N hours / days
Send email Email step
Send SMS SMS step (if consent)
Update customer Add tag, change segment
Exit End the flow

Common automation patterns

Pattern Blocks
Welcome series Trigger: signup → Email 1 → Wait 2 days → Email 2 → Wait 5 days → Email 3
Abandoned cart Trigger: cart abandoned → Wait 1h → Email → Wait 24h → Email + Discount
Post-purchase Trigger: purchase → Wait 3 days → "How is it?" email → Branch: response yes/no
Win-back Trigger: lapsed → Email → Wait 7d → Email + Discount

Steps

1. Open Marketing > Automations

3. Pick trigger

4. Drag blocks onto canvas

5. Configure each block

6. Connect with arrows

7. Test with sample customer

8. Activate

Verify the result

  • Workflow saves without errors.
  • Test customer entered + steps fire as expected.
  • Branches resolve correctly.

Best practices

  • Plan flow on paper first.
  • Test before activate.
  • Sample-audit weekly post-launch.
  • Iterate based on metrics.

Common mistakes

  • Loop forever: exit conditions missing.
  • Trigger fires too easily: too many entries.
  • Untested branches: broken in production.
