Getting Around Quickly
The controls in the admin top bar, which stay with you on every page: search, the assistant on Cmd+K, the language switcher and the button that opens the sidebar.

Every page of the admin carries the same strip of controls along the top, and they are the fastest way to get somewhere because they never move. Whatever page you are on, they are in the same place. This article covers what each one does and when to reach for it rather than for the menu.
What sits in the top bar

| AI Assistant | Opens the assistant. Its label also shows a keyboard shortcut for anyone who prefers one, given as Cmd+K in this admin |

| Account menu | Your own account, as opposed to the store's settings |
When to use which
Search and the sidebar answer different questions, and picking the wrong one is what makes the admin feel slow.
Use Search when you know what you want. An order number, a product name, a customer's name. You already know the thing exists and you only need to get to it, so going Orders, then the list, then filtering, then finding the row is four steps for something search does in one.
Use the sidebar when you do not. Moving between areas, or looking for a setting whose home you cannot place, is browsing rather than fetching, and a list of areas is what you want in front of you.
Use the assistant when you cannot name it. If you can describe what you are trying to do but not what the feature is called, neither search nor the sidebar helps, because both need the right word. Describing it in your own words does not. Open it from the top bar, or with the keyboard shortcut on its label if you work that way.
Tip: Match the tool to what you already know. If you know the name, use search. If you know roughly where it lives, open the sidebar. If you can only describe what you are trying to do, ask the assistant. Using the wrong one is what makes a task take longer than it should.
What is no longer here
Home used to open with a row of shortcut buttons. It does not any more: the redesigned Home is an assistant box and setup task cards, and the shortcuts moved into the top bar covered above. Home Dashboard Overview describes the page as it is now.
