The Marketing Overview Page
The Marketing overview is your one-page read on how marketing is doing: headline figures for sessions, sales, and orders from marketing, your top channels, your recent campaigns, and what your marketing apps are working on. This explains what each part of the page shows and how to use it.
On this page
The Marketing overview is the single page that tells you how your marketing is performing without opening five separate reports. It brings together the headline numbers, your best channels, your latest campaigns, and the activity of your marketing apps, all for a date range you set. Reading it is less about following steps and more about knowing what each part of the page is telling you, so this article walks the sections in the order they appear and how to use each one. Advertising Overview frames how tracking and attribution fit together.
Before you begin
- Set the date range first, since every figure on the page reflects it.
- Expect Recent campaigns and Marketing app activities to stay empty until you have run a campaign or connected a marketing app.
- Open Marketing in the admin sidebar, which opens on the Overview.
The headline metrics
At the top, a row of four figures summarizes marketing for the date range. Read them as a quick health check before going deeper.
| Figure | What it answers |
|---|---|
| Sessions | How much traffic your marketing brought |
| Sales from marketing | What that traffic earned |
| Orders from marketing | How many orders it closed |
| Conversion rate | How efficiently those sessions turned into orders |
Two controls sit alongside them: a date range, so you know the period the figures cover, and the attribution model, which opens on Last non-direct click and is the rule used to decide which channel gets credit for a sale. See The Attribution Model.
Top marketing channels
Below the metrics, the Top marketing channels section ranks the channels bringing your traffic and sales, so you can see which ones are pulling their weight. Each row carries Channel, Sessions, Sales, Orders, Conversion rate, and AOV, which is enough to tell a channel that brings volume from one that brings value: a channel can send many sessions and still convert poorly, or send few and produce large orders. A View attribution report link opens the full breakdown. Attribution has the complete channel table and how to read it.
Recent campaigns
The Recent campaigns section lists your latest campaigns so you can check a campaign you just ran before deciding whether to keep, adjust, or end it. Each row carries Campaign, Updated, Sessions, Sales, Orders, and Average order value. Updated is the useful one to watch alongside the figures, since it tells you how recent the campaign's activity is and therefore whether its numbers have had time to mean anything. A View campaigns link opens the full campaign list.
Marketing app activities
The Marketing app activities section shows your connected marketing apps and what each is working on, so you can tell which are active without opening them one by one. An Explore apps action sits alongside it for adding more. See Marketing App Activities.
How to use the page
Read the page top to bottom as a status check: the headline metrics for the overall picture, then the channels and campaigns for what is driving it, then the app activities for what your tools are doing. When something stands out, follow its link into the detailed report or the app to act on it. The overview is for seeing where to look, and the linked reports are for digging in.
Tip: Use the overview to decide where to look, not to draw final conclusions. The headline figures and top channels point you to what is working or slipping, and the full attribution report is where you confirm it before moving budget.
Verify the result
- The headline metrics show sessions, sales, orders, and conversion rate for the date range you set.
- Top marketing channels and Recent campaigns list your real channels and campaigns.
- Marketing app activities reflects what your connected apps are working on.
Best practices
- Set the date range deliberately, since every figure on the page reflects it.
- Use the overview to spot what to investigate, then open the full attribution report to confirm before acting.
- Read channel and campaign figures under the attribution model, so you interpret credit as the closing touch.
- Check the page regularly, so a change in a channel or campaign is noticed while you can still act on it.
