Discount Analytics
There is no single discount analytics report in Tanqory, so you read discount performance in two places. Each discount shows the number of times it has been used, and the store Analytics page includes a Discounts figure in its sales breakdown for the total taken off by discounts over a period. This companion explains where each figure lives and links to the full pages.
On this page
To understand how your discounts are doing, Tanqory gives you two places to look rather than a single discount analytics report. On each discount, the Performance area shows the number of times it has been used, which tells you whether that one discount is being redeemed. Across the store, the Analytics page includes a Discounts figure in its sales breakdown, which tells you the total amount taken off by discounts over a period. Together these answer the two common questions: is this discount being used, and how much are discounts reducing sales overall.
There is no separate report that shows revenue, average order value, or margin for a single discount. So when you want the activity for one discount you read the used count on the discount, and when you want the overall effect of discounts on sales you read the Discounts line on the Analytics page. Each discount also has a View the sales by discount report link that points you toward the report from the discount itself.
Before you begin
- Your role includes View discounts and View analytics.
- Open Analytics for the store-wide effect, or open a discount under Discounts for its used count.
Where discount data appears
| Place | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Performance, on a discount | How many times that discount has been used |
| View the sales by discount report link, on a discount | A link toward the report from the discount |
| Discounts figure, on the Analytics page | The total amount taken off by discounts across the store, for the period |
Steps
1. Read the used count on a discount
Open a discount from the Discounts list and read its Performance used count. This tells you whether that discount is being redeemed. See Discount Performance Summary.
2. Open Analytics for the effect across the store
Open Analytics and find the sales breakdown, which includes a Discounts line. This is the total amount taken off by discounts across the store for the period shown, so it tells you how much discounts are reducing sales overall, not for one discount.
3. Choose the period
Set the period on the Analytics page so the Discounts figure and the other sales numbers cover the range you want, such as the last month. Reading the Discounts figure against the same period as your promotions shows their overall effect.
Verify the result
- A discount's Performance shows a used count for that discount.
- The Analytics sales breakdown shows a Discounts figure for the period.
- No revenue, average order value, or margin figure is shown for a single discount, since the discount page keeps to the used count.
Best practices
- Use the used count for a single discount and the Analytics Discounts figure for the overall effect, rather than expecting one number to do both.
- Match the Analytics period to your promotion, so the Discounts figure reflects the time the discounts ran.
- Read discount data together with status, since a discount that is not active will not be adding to either figure.
Common mistakes
- Expecting revenue or margin for a single discount, when the discount page shows the used count and the store total is on the Analytics page.
- Reading the Analytics Discounts figure as one discount's result, when it is the total across every discount for the period.
If something goes wrong
- The used count is zero. The discount may not have been redeemed yet, or it may not be active.
- The Discounts figure is zero. No discounts were applied in the selected period, or the period is set to a range with no discounted orders.
- You cannot open Analytics. Your role may not have permission to view analytics.
