Discount Status Flow
Every discount has a status that says where it is in its life: Active, Scheduled, Expired, or Draft. The status tabs on the Discounts page group discounts by status, and a discount moves between them on its own based on its active dates, so the status tells you whether it is working right now.
On this page
Every discount has a status that shows where it is in its life, and the Discounts page groups discounts by status with a row of tabs: All, Active, Scheduled, Expired, and Draft. The status tells you from the list whether a discount is working now, is waiting to start, has finished, or is not live yet, so you can find the discounts in a given state by clicking its tab.
A discount changes status on its own based on its active dates. Before its start date it sits as Scheduled and does not apply. At the start it becomes Active and customers can use it. At the end date, if one is set, it becomes Expired and stops applying. A discount that is not yet live appears under Draft. Because these changes happen automatically, the status is a reliable signal of whether a discount is affecting checkout right now, without you having to check the dates yourself.
The statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active | The discount is live and can be used at checkout |
| Scheduled | The discount is set to start later and is not applying yet |
| Expired | The discount has passed its end date and no longer applies |
| Draft | The discount is not live |
| All | Not a status; this tab shows every discount whatever its status |
Before you begin
- Your role includes View discounts.
- Open Discounts in the admin sidebar to open the discounts list.
Steps
1. Open Discounts and read the status tabs
Open Discounts. The tabs across the top are All, Active, Scheduled, Expired, and Draft, each with a count, so you can see how many discounts are in each state.
2. Filter to a status
Click a tab to see only the discounts in that status. Use Scheduled to review discounts that are set to start, Active to see what is live now, and Expired to find discounts that have ended, for example when you want to reuse one.
3. Check a discount's dates to understand its status
A discount's status follows its active dates, so if a discount is Scheduled when you expected it to be Active, open it and check the start date and time. See Schedule Discounts.
Verify the result
- A discount within its active dates shows as Active and applies at checkout.
- A discount with a start date in the future shows as Scheduled and does not apply yet.
- A discount past its end date shows as Expired and no longer applies.
Best practices
- Check the Active tab before a launch, so you know exactly which discounts are live.
- Use the Scheduled tab to confirm upcoming discounts, so a planned promotion is set to start when you expect.
- Look at the Expired tab to reuse past discounts, for example by duplicating one for a new campaign.
Common mistakes
- Assuming a discount is live when it is Scheduled, so it is not applying yet because its start date has not arrived.
- Not setting an end date, so a discount stays Active instead of moving to Expired when the promotion should end.
If something goes wrong
- A discount is not applying. Check its status tab: if it is Scheduled its start has not arrived, and if it is Expired its end date has passed.
- A discount is under Draft. It is not live yet; open it, finish it, and make it active.
- You cannot see a discount. Check the All tab, since the other tabs show only one status.
