Discount Performance Summary
On a discount's page, the Performance area shows how many times the discount has been used and a link to the sales by discount report. This companion explains how to read it and where to go for more, and links to the full detail page guide.
On this page
Each discount's page has a Performance area in its Summary panel that tells you whether the discount is being used. It shows how many times the discount has been used, written as a used count, and a link to the sales by discount report for a closer look. This article explains how to read that figure; and Discount Detail Page takes the whole Summary panel and the rest of the page.
The used count is the plain measure of activity for one discount: a count of zero means it has not been redeemed yet, and the number rises as customers use it. The admin keeps the figure for each discount simple and sends you to the sales by discount report when you want to look at how discounts are performing in more detail, rather than showing revenue or averages on the discount itself.
What Performance shows
| Item | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Used count | How many times this discount has been redeemed |
| View the sales by discount report | A link to the report for a closer look at how discounts are performing |
Before you begin
- Your role includes View discounts.
- Open Discounts in the admin sidebar and open the discount you want to work on.
Steps
1. Open the discount and find Performance
Open the discount from the Discounts list. In the Summary panel on the right, find Performance, which shows the used count. See Discount Detail Page.
2. Read the used count
Read the used count to see whether the discount is being redeemed. A count of zero means no one has used it yet, which is expected for a new discount, while a rising number shows it is being used. This is how you tell without opening the orders whether a discount is active in practice.
3. Open the report for more
Select View the sales by discount report to open the report, where you can look at how discounts are performing beyond the single used count. Use this when the used count alone does not answer your question.
Verify the result
- The Performance area shows a used count for the discount.
- A new discount shows zero uses until it is redeemed.
- The report opens from the View the sales by discount report link.
Best practices
- Check the used count during a promotion, so you can see whether the discount is being redeemed.
- Use the report for a closer look, since the discount page itself keeps the figure to the used count.
- Read the used count together with the discount's status, since a discount that is not active will not be gaining uses.
Common mistakes
- Expecting revenue or average figures on the discount, when the discount page shows the used count and links out to the report for more.
- Reading a zero count as a problem, when a new or unredeemed discount has not been used yet.
If something goes wrong
- The used count is zero when you expected uses. Confirm the discount is active and within its dates, and that customers are meeting its rules.
- You want more than the used count. Open the sales by discount report from the link.
- You cannot open the discount. Your role may not have permission to view discounts.
