Bulk Mark Orders as Unfulfilled
Sometimes you need to set orders back to Unfulfilled, for example when an order was marked fulfilled by mistake or a shipment falls through and has to be packed again. On the Orders list you can do this for several orders at once by selecting them and choosing Unfulfilled from the Mark as menu. This returns each selected order to the Unfulfilled status so it shows up again as needing to ship. This article walks through selecting orders and marking them unfulfilled.

Setting orders back to Unfulfilled is useful when an order was marked fulfilled by mistake, or a shipment falls through and the order has to be picked again. On the Orders list you can do this for several orders at once by selecting them and choosing Unfulfilled from the Mark as menu and confirming in a short window. That returns each selected order to the Unfulfilled status so it shows up again as needing to ship. This article walks through it.
You do this on the Orders list, reached from Orders.
The bulk action bar
Selecting one or more orders on the list shows a bulk action bar along the top with actions that apply to all the selected orders. The Mark as menu on that bar sets the fulfillment status, and sits alongside Print, Create shipping labels, and Capture payment.
The Mark as menu lists Unfulfilled, In progress, Mark as fulfilled, Delivered, and On hold. Choosing Unfulfilled sets that status on every selected order.
Before you begin
- Your role includes Edit orders.
- Open Orders and select the orders whose status you need to correct.
Steps
1. Open the Orders list
Go to Orders to open the list of orders.
2. Select the orders
Tick the checkbox at the start of each order's row (1) to select it. The checkbox in the header row selects every order on the page at once. As soon as one order is selected, the bulk action bar appears.
3. Open the Mark as menu
In the bulk action bar, select Mark as. A menu opens with the fulfillment statuses.
4. Choose Unfulfilled
Select Unfulfilled (2). A confirmation window opens.
5. Confirm in the window
The window reads Mark N orders as unfulfilled and warns that the fulfillment will change from Fulfilled to Unfulfilled and that tracking and carrier information will be deleted. Select Mark as unfulfilled to confirm, or Cancel to stop.
What happens when you confirm
Each selected order moves back to the Unfulfilled status, and any tracking and carrier information on the fulfillment is deleted, as the window warns. The customer is not emailed by this action. Because the tracking is removed, only set an order back to Unfulfilled to correct a status, not to undo a shipment that has really gone out.
When to set orders back to Unfulfilled
Use this to correct the fulfillment status, not to undo a shipment that has really gone out. Setting an order back to Unfulfilled changes the status on the order and deletes the tracking; it does not recall a parcel or refund a shipping label.
Best practices
- Set orders back to Unfulfilled only when the status is wrong, for example an order marked fulfilled too early.
- Check the order after reverting, so any tracking or notes still match the real state of the shipment.
- Select only the orders you mean to change, rather than the whole page.
Common mistakes
- Reverting an order that really did ship, which makes the status disagree with what the customer received.
- Selecting the wrong orders, for example using the header checkbox and reverting the whole page.
- Assuming it recalls the shipment, when it only changes the status in the admin.
