Market Customizations Overview
Each market either inherits a setting from your store or customizes it for that market. The market's page separates the two: Inherited settings are the ones it takes from your store, each with a control to customize it, and Customized holds the ones you have changed. This is how you make a market different where it needs to be.

Customizing a market is how you make it different from your store's defaults where it needs to be, while leaving the rest to follow your store. Every market setting is either inherited, meaning it uses your store's value, or customized, meaning you have set it for that market. The market's page keeps these two apart so you can see what is special about a market and what follows your store. You manage them on the market's page, in the Inherited settings and Customized sections.
What you can customize
The Inherited settings section lists the settings a market is still taking from your store. Each one shows the value it currently uses, with a control to customize it for this market; when you customize one, it moves up to the Customized section, so it no longer appears here.
These are the settings a market can customize. In the image, Domain and language is not listed because it is already customized on this market, so it appears in the Customized section instead of here.
| Setting | What customizing it does |
|---|---|
| Currency | Set the currency the market sells in, or use local currencies |
| Catalogs | Choose which products the market shows |
| Discounts | Control which discounts apply in the market |
| Online Store | Set the storefront theme the market uses |
| Domain and language | Give the market its own domain and language |
| Taxes and duties | Set how tax is handled for the market |
| Returns and cancellations | Set the return rules for the market |
Before you begin
- You have a market to look at. The Inherited settings and Customized sections belong to a single market, so there is nothing to read until one exists.
- Your role includes View markets.
- Open Markets in the left navigation, then select a market to open its page.
Inherited versus customized
The two sections are the heart of how a market works. Inherited settings are the ones the market takes from your store as they are; each shows its store value and an add control to customize it. Customized holds the settings you have changed for this market, shown with a control to remove the customization and return to the store default. A brand-new market inherits everything, and it becomes more customized as you set values that differ from your store.
Note: Changing a setting on your store updates every market that still inherits it, but it does not touch a market that has customized that setting. Customizing a setting effectively disconnects it from your store default.
How to customize a setting
To customize a setting, select the add control next to it in Inherited settings. That setting then moves to the Customized section, where you set the value you want for the market. To undo a customization, use the remove control on it in Customized, and the setting goes back to inheriting your store's value. This means you can customize only what a market needs and leave everything else to follow your store.
Best practices
- Customize only what a market needs. Leave settings inherited unless a market genuinely needs its own, so markets stay simple.
- Check inherited values first. The Inherited settings section shows what a market uses now, before you change anything.
- Use remove to reset. If a customization was a mistake, remove it to return to your store's default.
- Review after customizing. Confirm the Customized section shows exactly what you meant to change.
If something goes wrong
- A setting is not what you expect. Check whether it is under Customized or Inherited settings, since inherited ones follow your store.
- You customized the wrong setting. Use the remove control on it in Customized to return it to the store default.
- A change to your store did not reach a market. If the market customizes that setting, it no longer inherits your store's value.
- You cannot customize a market. Your role may not allow managing markets. Ask an owner or admin.
