Set a Market's Currency
A market's currency is the currency its buyers are charged in. You set it from the market's Currency setting, where a dropdown chooses how the market charges, such as using local currencies, and a price-rounding option tidies converted prices. This lets buyers in a market pay in the money they expect.
On this page
A market's currency is the currency buyers in that market are charged in, so setting it right means buyers pay in the money they expect rather than a foreign one. You control it from the market's Currency setting, where a dropdown sets how the market charges, such as using local currencies for the regions it covers, and a rounding option keeps converted prices tidy. Getting this right makes a market feel local at checkout. You set it on the market's page, from the Currency setting under Inherited settings.
Before you begin
- In your admin, select Markets in the left navigation, then select a market to open its page.
- You have a market with its regions set, since the currency choice serves those regions. See Add Regions to a Market.
The currency setting
Selecting the Currency setting on a market opens a small panel where you choose the currency and how prices are rounded.
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Currency | How the market charges, set from the dropdown, shown here as Use local currencies |
| Price rounding | Whether prices are rounded to a tidier amount, or left unrounded |
| Cancel / Done | Discard the change, or apply it to the market |
Choosing the currency
Open the Currency dropdown to choose how the market charges. Use local currencies, the option shown here, lets buyers in each region pay in their own currency, which suits a market that spans several countries. Choose the option in the dropdown that matches how you want buyers in the market to pay. Market Local Currencies goes further on the local-currency option.
Rounding prices
Below the currency, Price rounding decides whether converted prices are tidied up. Round up to nearest $1.00 USD rounds prices to a cleaner amount so they do not appear as awkward converted figures, while No rounding leaves them exact. How prices are shown is covered further in Market Currency Formatting.
Applying the change
When the currency and rounding are set the way you want, select Done to apply them to the market, or Cancel to leave the currency as it was. Once applied, the market charges buyers using the currency you chose.
Tip: For a market that spans several countries, choose Use local currencies so each buyer pays in their own currency, and turn on price rounding so the converted amounts land on clean figures at checkout.
Best practices
- Match the currency to the market. Use local currencies for a multi-country market so buyers pay in their own currency.
- Round for cleaner prices. Rounding avoids odd converted amounts that can look untrustworthy at checkout.
- Set regions first. The currency serves the market's regions, so add its regions before choosing the currency.
- Review after changing. Check that the market's Currency shows what you intended.
If something goes wrong
- Buyers see the wrong currency. Open the market's Currency setting and choose the currency you want.
- Prices look like odd converted amounts. Turn on Price rounding to tidy them.
- Your change did not take effect. Make sure you selected Done rather than Cancel.
- You cannot change the currency. Your role may not allow managing markets. Ask an owner or admin.
