Market Name and Status
A market has a name that identifies it in your admin, and a status that says whether it is live. You set both at the top of the market's page: type the name in the Name field, and choose Active, Inactive, or Suspended from the status control. The name is how you recognize the market in the Markets list.
On this page
A market's name and status sit at the top of its page and are the first things you set. The name is how you recognize the market wherever it appears in your admin, such as in the Markets list, so a clear name keeps your markets easy to tell apart. The status says whether the market is live, so you can prepare a market before it starts selling. You set both in the Name area at the top of the market's page.
Name and status
The Name field holds the market's name, and beside it a status control shows whether the market is Active. Together they identify the market and say whether it is in use.
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Name | The market's name, shown wherever the market appears, such as European Union |
| Status | Whether the market is Active, Inactive, or Suspended |
There is no separate description field for a market; the name is what identifies it, so make the name descriptive enough on its own, such as European Union or United States.
Before you begin
- In your admin, select Markets in the left navigation, then select a market to open its page.
- You have a market open, or are creating one, so the Name field is available.
Naming a market
Type the market's name in the Name field. Choose a name that describes the regions or purpose of the market, such as European Union for a group of European countries, so you can recognize it easily in the Markets list. You can change the name later from the same field.
Setting the status
Use the status control next to the Name field to set whether the market is live. A market that is Active is in use; Inactive and Suspended are the other states, and the Markets list lets you filter by each. Set a market to Active only when it is ready, so buyers are not served by a market you are still setting up.
Note: A market serves buyers only while its status is Active. Keep it Inactive as you set it up, and switch it to Active once its regions, currency, and shipping are ready.
Best practices
- Use a clear, descriptive name. Since there is no description field, the name alone should tell you what the market is.
- Match the name to the regions. A name like European Union makes the market easy to recognize in the list.
- Keep the status accurate. Set a market Active only when it is ready to sell.
- Rename when things change. If a market's purpose changes, update its name so the list stays clear.
If something goes wrong
- You cannot tell markets apart. Give each a clear, distinct name, since the name is the only label.
- A market is live too early. Change its status so it is not Active until you have finished setting it up.
- Your name change did not stick. Make sure any unsaved changes on the market's page are saved.
- You cannot change the name or status. Your role may not allow managing markets. Ask an owner or admin.
